Big Italian Holidays
By Dina Mardiana
There are many big days, or we call it
Italian holidays in Italy. Italians indeed like spending happy times during our
Italian holidays, and most of Italians are really fond of going to the beach in between these
Italian holidays.
Exceptionally, the whole
Italian big cities will be empty in the day of 15th august, as most of Italians escape to the beach, especially to the southern part of Italy like
Naples and
Sicily.
Besides the famous Ferragosto on 15th August as the ‘biggest’
Italian holiday, there is also, certainly the Christmas Day on 25th December; and ten days after, the Epiphany Day on 6th January. You see many kiosques, department stores, stalls and boutiques sell the kindhearted witch dolls.
Ah, I forgot to tell, on Christmas Day, if you celebrate it with the Italians, you will have the opportunity to taste the delicious rolled meat which we call
cotecchino. And do not forget also the
Panettone cake, the one and only delicious cake with berries originally from Italy. All of these types of food you will find only on Italian holidays!
There is also Easter holiday on late March or early April, and on this precious
Italian holiday we usually eat the sweet cake formed like a dove (
la colomba). You see that we, the Italians, are very fond of eating our own traditional food!
So next time you visit Italy, do not forget to count in these
Italian holidays, in order to taste the typical
Italian food and cakes made by us!
